We have two stories today that show the steady downward slide of the mainstream media.
First, the New York Times has taken a financial beating lately as sales have headed south and revenue is flat. Word came out yesterday that Hank Greenberg would increase his stake in the Times and was looking to buy the troubled paper from the Ochs-Sulzberger Trust. Since Pinch Sulzberger took over the leadership at the Times, the quality of the paper has ebbed dramatically while the extreme partisanship has increased.
From hiring Howell Raines who then hired Jayson Williams to the Martha Bark story and the incessant bad reporting about Iraq, the Times has alienated all but the New York City elite who live in their cocoons on the upper west side of Manhattan.
It doesn't appear as though Greenberg is interested in saving the dying liberal rag, however, even though Wall Street was optimistic for a short time.
The next story involves the Associated Press. More after the jump.
The AP has been busted using a false source in Iraq and has dug themselves in deeper by not admitting wrong doing. As with Nixon, it's always the cover-up. Curt, Michelle and Hot Air have been all over this story.
None of us want to see the media crash and burn, they do have a rightful place in our democracy. What we--especially on the right--want is a truthful, fair media that will write the story without an ideological bent. The day they stopped doing that was the day they lost our trust and ushered in the new media.

2. I am in the process of canceling my subscription to the S.F. Chronicle for the very same reason that the N.Y. Times has lost it's trust to the people. The S.F. Chronicle is so biased against the causes of the right, even the causes of the moderate, that the paper has become trash. I only keep the subscription going because of the puzzles.

4. The mainstream media, has transformed itself from gatherer of facts to cheerleader for the left. The New York Times and the other house organs for the DNC are NOT credible outlets for fact. The editorial boards are made up of over the hill 60's retreads. The reporters grew up on, and try to invent another Watergate. The journalism schools do not allow much diversity away from the lockstep chants of the left. When it comes time to take a real stand for freedom of the press, like during the Islamic cartoon story, the cowards run for the shadows. When it came to printing state secrets, they turned the floodlights on. It's easy to see, this crop of political hacks, wouldn't know the truth if it fell on them. We might be speaking German if this group existed in the 40's. They would have printed the D-Day plans on the front page and give each other awards for the "important right to know" issues involved. The Civil War would have been called a Quagmire. President Washington would have been demonized during the Whiskey Wars. The Revolution would have been a lost cause in 1777. The MSM is yesterday's news, but they won't report that.

5. I live in lakeland Fl and I have cancelled my subscription to our (liberal rag)The lakeland ledger, which happens to be owned by the NY Times. It is sad for I have been reading it for 27 years and I enjoy my local sports section, but I refuse to give another dime to this rag.

6. This is something that the media as a whole need's to address. There's no such thing as an impartial news sourse anymore. Everyone chooses a side and that's that. There was a time when the public relied on the news to make sure our leaders were made to answer for their decisions. As public servants politicians all the way to the president are employed by the people and the media was our voice. Gone are the days of the true journalist's welcome to the day of news corporations.
